What is SmartShield?

SmartShield is a research assist tool that recruiters use when reviewing resumes. It surfaces information from public sources and AI-assisted analysis to support a recruiter's review of a resume. SmartShield does not make hiring decisions or recommend whether a candidate should be advanced or rejected. Decisions about your application are made by the recruiter or employer who reviewed it.

SmartShield is made available by Cadient Talent.

How might SmartShield have been used with my resume?

If a recruiter or employer used SmartShield with your resume, the text of your resume was processed to surface information for that recruiter's review. The processing included a combination of the following:

  • AI-assisted analysis of resume content, including AI-content detection (an assessment of whether portions of the resume text appear to have been generated by AI), performed using third-party AI services.
  • Public web, news, and search-engine lookups based on information in the resume (such as your name, listed employers, or listed schools).
  • Lookups against public business-information sources to identify publicly available information about listed employers.
  • Historical web availability checks (the Wayback Machine) for listed employers.
  • A name-based check against the U.S. public sanctions list (OFAC).
  • Adverse media search using public news sources.
  • Technical email-deliverability and phone-line-type checks.
  • Retrieval of publicly available professional-profile snippets through search services.

The information processed was whatever appeared on your resume, typically including your name, contact information, employment history, education history, and any other content you included.

Does SmartShield decide whether I am hired?

No. SmartShield surfaces information for a recruiter to review. The recruiter and the recruiter's organization are responsible for any decision about your application. SmartShield does not produce hiring recommendations.

Are SmartShield's findings accurate?

Findings produced by SmartShield may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or based on misidentification (for example, where your name matches that of another individual). AI-generated outputs may contain errors. Recruiters are expected to independently verify findings before relying on them. SmartShield does not certify or validate the accuracy of any information in a resume or any third-party source.

What does Cadient Talent keep?

Cadient Talent does not retain the original resume file or its full text in its systems after processing is complete. Structured findings generated by SmartShield during a recruiter's session may be retained for a period determined by operational, accuracy, and legal considerations, typically not longer than twenty-four (24) months. Service providers used by Cadient Talent (including Anthropic) may retain inputs for limited periods consistent with their own data practices.

What rights do I have?

The rights available to you depend on where you live and the laws that apply. In general:

  • Deletion of findings. You may request that Cadient Talent delete any structured findings retained about you. To make a request, contact privacy@cadienttalent.com.
  • Information about your application. Because Cadient Talent does not retain the underlying resume after processing, Cadient Talent is unable to provide you with a copy of what was processed. Questions about how your application was evaluated, or about any decision made in connection with it, should be directed to the recruiter or employer who reviewed your application.

To the extent your state's privacy laws (such as the California Consumer Privacy Act) provide you with rights where applicable, Cadient Talent will respond to verifiable consumer requests consistent with applicable law.

How is SmartShield used in employment-related contexts?

SmartShield uses automated processing and AI-assisted methods. The recruiter using SmartShield, and not Cadient Talent, is responsible for any hiring decision concerning you, for compliance with applicable employment, anti-discrimination, privacy, and labor laws, and for providing any candidate-facing notice or response that may be required by law.

Where is SmartShield offered?

SmartShield is offered for use within the United States and is not intended for use in connection with candidates located outside the United States.
